July 21 2009- Secret Service, Downtown Chicago
Dan Johnson (Bank of America) – Program Director

We had another great BRPA meeting that took place at the Secret Service Office in downtown Chicago. This meeting was the first BRPA meeting ever conducted at this location. The room was spacious and the speakers were excellent. It was also a great network opportunity for all who attended. There were over 70 members in attendance and from the survey responses they were all very pleased with the program. Q-Tech sponsored the breakfast from Alonti and Chris Pope gave everyone an overview of Q-Tech’s services.

The theme of this meeting was ‘Are You Secure?’ There were three presentations for this meeting. The first presentation featured Robert Verenna and Joseph McCulley from the Secret Service who educated everyone on electronic crimes and internet fraud. The second presentation featured Jason Witty from Bank of America who presented ‘Potential Cyber Security Effects for Business Continuity Professionals’. The third session featured Jim Satterfield from Firestorm who presented lessons learned from actual events, how to be prepared for anything and also conducted a brief test exercise.

May 19 2009 - IBM Schaumburg (Joint meeting with ACP).

Recap of May 19th Meeting by Dan Johnson (Bank of America) – Program Director

The May meeting at IBM in Schaumburg was a HUGE success! This meeting was the first ever combined meeting with the Association of Contingency Planners (ACP). Our two Chicago-based organizations collaborated for the first time ever, allowing a great Network opportunity for all who attended. There were over 100 members in attendance and they were not disappointed. Great prizes were raffled off, the networking opportunities were the best we’ve ever had and IBM was a fantastic host, providing breakfast, lunch and refreshments to all attendees. They also hosted product demonstrations and gave site tours of their facility. What a great day!

The theme of the meeting was ‘Energize Your BC/DR Career’. The first presentation, Elevating Your Career in Business Continuity, featured Cheyene Haase from BC Management, Inc. who educated everyone on the skill sets needed to advance your BC careers and compensation. The second presentation featured John Orlando from Norwich University who presented Advancing your Career through Higher Education. The third session featured Ann Pickren from DRII who informed all attendees on Maintaining a Competitive Edge as a Business Continuity Professional. The last session was a panel discussion moderated by John Stagl from Belfor, Inc. All three speakers from this session resided on the panel to answer questions from the audience and Mr. Stagl. The panel members shared their professional opinions based on their BC/DR experiences and offered advice on how members can improve their BC careers through certifications, degrees and other education.

March 10 2009

The March meeting at the Zurich North America in Schaumburg was a very successful event! 70 members attended and our presenters hit another one out of the park. Ron Cooley (Grainger) presented Managing the Risks of Business Continuity, Tom Dziurgot (BRPA President) facilitated an open forum session with all attendees, Dr. Larry Rapagnani (GramTel) presented 10 Eye Opening Things to Consider, and Chris Gladwin (Cleversafe) presented Limitless Data Storage using Information Dispersal.
